Assistant Principal Mowell's Page

It is with great excitement and honor that I introduce myself as one of the new Assistant Principals at Swansboro High School.

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, I moved to Gates County, NC, during high school and came to Jacksonville in 1992 as a young Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune. After serving 22 years in the Marine Corps and retiring from the 2nd Marine Division in 2014, I proudly made Onslow County my home.

In 2018, I began my journey with Onslow County Schools as an EC teacher assistant at Richlands High School, later transitioning into a Lateral Entry EC teaching role. I served as the Occupational Course of Study EC teacher through the 2024–25 school year.

My educational background includes a bachelor’s in social science, a master’s in human resource management and leadership, and teacher certification from ECU’s former Teacher Prep program. I’m currently completing a second master’s in School Administration at ECU.

I believe in the power of relationships and fostering an environment where all students can thrive. I’m dedicated to building strong partnerships with students, families, and educators that support high expectations and continued growth.

Education is a family passion. My wife serves as the Lead EC Program Coach for Onslow County Schools, and our three sons are proud OCS graduates. Our oldest, a graduate of Jacksonville High School's adaptive program, is employed part time at our church. Our middle son graduated from Onslow Early College and NC State and is entering graduate school at UNC Pembroke. Our youngest is currently serving in the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Program.

We love the coastal lifestyle and enjoy boating and camping whenever possible. I’m honored to join the Pirate family and look forward to serving the students, staff, and families of Swansboro High School.
